Should Michael Bloomberg be allowed to run for a third term as Mayor?

No, he's done his two terms already.

No, how do we know he can fix it better than anyone else?

Yes, but just this once. Bloomberg's acumen will come in handy.

Yes, but only if approved by the public in a referendum.

Yes, term limits are arbitrary and unneccessary.

The Mayor's efforts for a third term reminds me of Mr. Giuliani's try to postpone elections after 9/11/2001. There was a plebiscite and rightly or wrongly, the voters approved the term limit - just as we have a Constitutional amndment limiting any President to two (total, not necessarily consecutive) terms. Mr. Bloomberg should live by the law.

He should be appointed as the financial adviser to the new Mayor, and perhaps to the City Council. Term limits were set by referendum and that should be respected.

When Mayor Daly ran a machine it was called a machine. I guess for today's billionaire-licking media, its difficult to call the Bloomberg era a political machine. But think it over. Many of our attitudes toward term limits were formed in the 90s re the lgislative branch. In the executive branch its a very different matter. Mayors, and Presidents can fill entire departments with yes men who will effect the city for a century with no way for citizens to have any impact. This is corporate oligarchy and we deserve much better exploration of these implications that what we were offered on tonights program. virtually nobody who challenged the Corporate agenda was afforded a second to give an alternative viewpoint.

The Mayor seems to have intentionally delayed his decision to repeal term limits in order to cut off the possibility of a public referendum on the issue. The reason? His advisors conducted a poll in the early spring which showed that voters would again affirm term limits. Therefore, Mayor Bloomberg ran out the clock and now is claiming there isn't time to hold a public vote and that it would be too expensive. We shouldn't reward this cynical manipulation of the system. Mayor Bloomberg should be denied his ambition for a third term.

Difficult times require sometimes unique fixes. If someone is doing an excellent job, now is not the time to make a change. If the electorate thinks he should not be elected, they can exercise their vote and turn the Mayor out.

Mayor Bloomberg has done an excellent job. He has been balanced, knowledgeable, & has always looked out for the city's interest. He did not have to appease or pay back political cronies.... In my opinion he has been the best mayor of New York City-- ever!! How could we not give him another term ? Don't we want the best mayor on the job ? His independant wealth & connections make him all the more useful to N.Y.

Mayor Bloomberg is an outstanding mayor. His vision, his extensive long term outlook for the city, his courage, connections & most of all his financial / business accumen are indispensible at this critical juncture. His performance to date has been superlative ( I have observed mayors since Mayor Lindsay). N.Y.City is just too important for political opportunists who would like to delve in at this crucial time..... !!
